Diffusion resistance is the magnitude that determines the ability of any material to pass water vapor through diffusion. The lower the resistance, the better it allows the material of the steam to leak in this way. Low resistance is required, for example, in the construction of wooden houses with a diffuse open wall. These constructions allow water vapor to move smoothly, which is a preventive measure against mold and fungi that otherwise work well in the walls of wood buildings .
